Should your company hire an in-house technician or outsource your IT? Actually, this probably is not the best question you could be asking. A better question would be “How much should I outsource and how much should I keep in-house?” This requires a deeper knowledge of where you are, so let's get started!

100-200
50-100

1 part-time tech ($12-20 an hour DOE)
1 salaried technician (~$3,500 + benefits

Question 3: How comfortable are you managing an IT Team without an Administrator familiar with the job requirements and expectations?
We could use the expertise of an IT company, who manage themselves
We may have some trouble but I'm sure it will be fine, better than having an outsourced company
We have an administrator
I'm sure we can figure it out

Question 4: Hiring IT help:
We love to hire and manage all employees, though when one quits, that's significant a problem
We may have an HR team, so there is only minimal downtime should an employee quit
We have an HR superhero team, and never have to worry about hiring IT help, there is no downtime
With how many computers we have, any downtime hurts our profitability, so when an IT guy quits, we have a problem

Question 5: In-house IT Teams
Are a well-oiled machine in our company
Are faster, rarely any computer issues, easily managed, always expert
Are safely in house, but they can't always keep up with maintenance
Generally keep up with problems as they come up, but sometimes get overwhelmed, and neglect proactive maintenance

Question 6: How often do you NEED on-site assistance? (Keep in mind: many problems can be fixed remotely, which is much more cost effective)
Monthly/emergency only
Part time
Constantly
Full-time, problem or not

Question 8: How much do you think a typical outsourcing company would cost a month, for your company?
$1,000-2,000
$7,000+
$4,000-7,000
$200-4,000

Question 9: Is personal service very important to you?
Yes, we want to know our tech, and still have access to other options should our tech be unavailable (techs are people too!)
Sure, though it isn't vital
Yes!
No- we're a large enough company that it's hard to keep up with everyone

Question 10: How familiar are you, and others in your company with computer issues?
We aren't experts, and when severe issues come up we're stuck
We have our own IT team, never any issues.
We have some help here in house, and/or have people we can call in for emergencies
We aren't experts, but we can manage basic problems
