Now that you've been elected, how well will you run things at your school?

So, first things first. Why'd you run for office, anyway?

I want to make some changes in the way things are done in student council.
I think I'm responsible and smart enough to make a good leader.
I felt like it. Why else?
I'm popular, duh!

In the election, only about twelve percent of the students voted. What do you do?

Mention it to the adviser, but back off when he says voter turnout is low in 'adult' elections, too.
Give the adviser some ideas to increase turnout.
Decide that at the end of the year, you will form a committee to oversee next year's election, and give them some of your ideas.
Nothing. Why should I care if they vote?

A dance is coming up in three weeks, and a dance committee still hasn't been formed. What do you do?

Organize it myself by email--thank goodness I decided to collect everyone's email address at the first meeting!
Bring it up at the next meeting if I can.
Go to the adviser after school and ask him about it.
Nothing--it's not my job, it's our adviser's.

The committees have been set up, but nobody is coming to the meetings. What do you do?

Take a fellow student council member and go around to the classes, telling people why student council is important and when the next meeting is.
Make sure everyone in student council you have classes with knows to go to the next one.
What'd you say? I wasn't at the meeting.
Nothing. This happens every year.

Showed up.
Immediately began planning the first event of the year.
Introduced yourself.

Not very many people came to the first dance. What will you do to advertise the next one?

Nothing. It was the adviser's/other officers'/representatives' fault, not mine.
Make a creative, funny announcement over the loudspeaker.
Make some more creative posters.

Launch into a speech about how student council can make a difference, but is only what students make it.

Try to make each event better than the last.

I am better than average. I am responsible and care about student council. I even come up with some pretty good ideas of my own. All I have to do is spread that to other people. Work with them even the ones I don’t know. Try to get other students involved. My year will probably be pretty good.

Isabella’s about average. Isabella shows up on a regular basis and try as hard as the next guy. Isabella doesn’t offer anything particularly new, though. Isabella might do better as secretary than as president. Make sure Isabella listens to other people’s ideas.

Isabella is better than average. Isabella is responsible and cares about student council. Isabella even comes up with some pretty good ideas of her own. All Isabella has to do is spread that to other . Work with them, even the ones Isabella doesn’t know (or don’t particularly like). Try to get other students involved. Isabella’s year will probably be pretty good.
