A dream in a nightmare

'Are you sure you'll be okay Luls?' Mum asked me for the hundredth time.
'Yes, really. I'm 17, don't worry about me.' I assured her.
Mum, dad and my brother Caspar were going on a camping trip in France for a few weeks. I convinced mum to let me stay at home, because she knew how much I hated camping. She still worried though.
'Okay, okay. My tablet is next to the TV if you get too bored, and you can invite some friends over too.' She said.
'And, no parties!' Dad warned me as he walked through the hallway carrying a rucksack.
'Okay, I get it.' I grinned.
'There's money in the jar if you run out of food, though I doubt you'll need it. And don't forget to feed Surla!' Mum added. Surla was my black cat.
Mum, dad and Caspar loaded all the luggage into the car and left. I waved as they backed out of the driveway.
As soon as they were out of sight, I went back inside and closed the door behind me.
Silence. Such a sweet word. I didn't get it often actually, considering I lived in a house with a dad who played a bass guitar in his spare time and an annoying brother.
I slowly walked into the living room. Surla was curled up on the bigger sofa in a shaft of sunlight.
