...In The Dark...
The words that came out of her mouth stung like poison from a needle. I couldn’t believe what I had heard. “Sorry...” she said, as she delivered the news. The painful words traveled from her mouth to my ears. The word sorry had said enough, I didn’t need anymore words to know. I closed my eyes remembered all the times we had together, the stories he would tell me before I drifted off to sleep, the way he’d hold me close when we embraced, and all the places he would take me and my siblings. My mother continued, “Grandpa....” She couldn’t finish. I looked at my younger siblings and their teary faces. I couldn’t cry in front of them, I had to stay strong. As we were leaving the hospital, things started to calm down. We had been there all day, and it was dark out. I’m glad it was dark during the car ride, so that no one could see the tear trailing down my cheek.
