Truly something (part two)

Adriane’s PoV

It’s a new day, a new week, and I have a girlfriend. Serena is the smartest, kindest, funniest, and most beautiful girl in the school, and I love her with all of my heart.

We have a plan to stop people from finding out. Today, we will put it into action. I need to find Ryan Gress and Sara Holmes first, as they are an important part of the plan. But before that, I need to talk to Serena.

I find her by her locker, reaching for her books. Her silky brown hair flows down to her shoulders, and her deep green eyes remind me of the sea.
“Serie!” I say.
“Adri! Hi,” she replies, smiling her beautiful smile at me. “What did you want to talk to me about?”
“ I need to tell you something,” I reply nervously.
“Oh! Sure, what is it?” she says curiously, fiddling with her hair.
“Um, well, I - I have-“

“Hey, guys!” Oh no. I was just about to tell her! Can’t Kelsie wait!
“Hi Kelsie,” says Serena, turning round to face her.
“We’ll finish the conversation later, ok Adri?” she whispers.
“Okay.” I nod. I’ll have to tell her at the break.

Serena’s PoV

As I leave the house, I grab my bag and sling it over my shoulder. I jog to school, waving hi to my neighbor’s son, Tyler, who is on his way to school as well. I think about my girlfriend, Adriane (or Adri as I call her) all journey long.

I step through the gates and head to my locker to grab my books. When I turn around, I see Adriane, and we say hello to each other.
“Serie, I need to tell you something,” she says.
“Oh! Sure, what is it?” I reply. I’m curious now.
“I - I have-“
“Hi guys!” shouts Kelsie, running towards us. I whisper to Adri that we can finish the conversation later. Kelsie can be a bit much sometimes. I brush my hair back over my shoulder and walk with Kelsie to maths, waving goodbye to Adriane. I love her so much.

Adriane’s PoV

After the form and my first 2 lessons, I tie my red hair back and pick up my bag. I run as quickly as possible to the Hall for break time so I can see Serena.

She’s already there when I arrive, concentrating hard on her book. It reminds me of how she looked when I first met her. The only difference is that back then, she wasn’t my girlfriend. She is now. I smile to myself and run towards her.“Hey!” I say.
“Hey Adri!” she responds excitedly. “What were you about to say earlier?”

“Well, um, the truth is, I - I.. have ... I have cancer.”

It feels good to finally admit it. Aside from Mum, Serena is now the only person that knows.
“Oh my gosh! Adriane! I had no idea!”
She wraps me up in a huge hug and I am grateful. I’m glad she didn’t ask any questions about it. She knows me so well.

Serena’s PoV

At break time, I wait for Adri to arrive. I read my book and thought of her, and what she was going to say earlier before she was interrupted.

Soon, I notice her auburn hair in the crowd. She approaches me.
“Hey!”
“Hey, Adri! What were you going to say earlier!”
“Well, um, the truth is I - I ... have ... I have cancer,” she blurts out. My heart skips a beat. Poor Adri!
“Oh my gosh, Adriane! I had no idea!”
Adriane looks at me gratefully. I don’t ask any questions - I know she doesn’t want me to.
Then, it suddenly hits me. Last week on Friday she must have been at the doctor’s office during the third lesson! That’s why she got into her mum's car. I feel so sorry for her, and I wish there was something to do to help.

Adriane’s PoV

I have music next. We learn a love song, and the lyrics make me think of Serena.

~ She had sleek brown hair and sea-green eyes, yeah, olive skin and a gorgeous smile, yeah ~,

the song goes. It describes Serie perfectly.

~and I knew that I loved her, from the very first moment, the very first time I saw her~

It almost seems like it’s describing our love story.

~ soon enough, we were together, now I’m the happiest I’ll ever be, cause she’s here ~

That’s exactly how I feel. This could be our song.
I head to lunch, and find her at our usual table, with Kelsie and Cassidy. Kels and Cassie seem to be in a rather heated argument about ... something, so I and Serena walk off together to find Ryan and Sara.

“Um, hey, Ryan,” I say nervously.
“Yeah, hi Serena, Adriane,” he replies.
“Listen, we need your help. Can you pretend to ask out Adriane I’m in front of Kelsie? And then call me stupid? And then ask out Sara? And then have Adriane dump you? Okay thanks,” says Serena very quickly.
“Come with us,” I say.

Together, we all walk off and find Sara with Jozefina, chatting.
“Sara, can you come with us for a second?” asks Serena.

We all walk back to Kelsie and Cassidy’s table, where Ryan begins the scene.
“ Hey, Adriane, d’you wanna go to the dance with me?”
“Omg, sure!” I reply. My acting is terrible at the best of times, so I hope Kelsie believes it.
“Oh cool! By the way, Serena, stop looking jealous. You’re ugly, stupid, and pathetic,” Ryan fake insults.
“Hey!” says Serena, looking offended. Her acting is actually good.

Serena’s PoV

We are in the middle of our fake ask-out scene, starring Ryan as Ryan, Adriane as Adriane, Me as Myself, and Sara as Sara. The audience: Kelsie and Cassidy.

“How dare you say that!” says Adriane. “I’m dumping you!” Her acting is so hilarious, I have to try really hard not to laugh.
“ Whatever, I don’t care!” says Ryan. He is terrible at acting. “ Sara, do you want to go with me?”
“Oh yes! Definitely!” Wow. She is bad.
