"Jamie. Jamie, wake up!" Callie whispered, shaking her sister awake. Jamie stirred, yawning. "What do you want?.." Jamie asked, throwing off the sheets. Callie looked out the window with a worried look, then grabbed the TV remote, turning on the news. A young news reporter stated seriously that an apocalypse had begun downtown.
Jamie's eyes widened as she looked at Callie. Callie nodded. "We need to get out of the city. Mom and Dad are missing, and everyone is freaked out," she said, running downstairs, Jamie hot on her heels. "Well, what are we going to do? We can't drive," Jamie said, surfing through her father's closet for his shotgun. Callie looked thoughtful as she grabbed her parents' pocket knives. "Well... all we need is some food, water, weapons, and some hiking gear. We may not be able to drive, but we should at least take Dad's car," she said, grabbing all the food she could from the cupboards and stuffing it into her backpack. Jamie came back from her dad's room with a shotgun and a pistol. "I also found a couple of water bottles so we should be good for a while. Now let's get going," Callie said, heaving her pack on her shoulder. They both looked out the window, then grabbed the car keys, unlocked the garage, and climbed into their father's large jeep. Then they set off on the road.
