The French Bulldog is a cross between toy bulldogs from England and ratter dogs from Paris. They started breeding them around the 1800s. They’re a very popular breed. In 2018 (2 years ago) they were the most popular dog in the UK and USA. They were rated third in Australia in 2017. The modern French Bulldog comes from the dogs Molossians, an Ancient Greek tribe. French bulldogs can be Cream, brindle, fawn, tan, black, brindle and white and blue Merle. They can live to be 10-14 years old. Like all dog breeds, from French bulldogs to Great Danes, it matters what condition it’s in. If it’s obese or if it’s sick. It really depends on your dog. But the AKC and others said they can live 10-14 or 11-13 years old. They can be 11-12 in tall. A male will weigh 20-28 lbs, while a female will weigh 16-24 lbs. French bulldogs are very intelligent and relatively easy to train! They are lap dogs and thrive on human companionship. They get along well with other dogs and animals. French bulldogs are great with kids and are great family dogs. Due to their size they make great apartment dogs. They can’t be left all alone for long periods of time or left to live outside. Frenchies are a social breed. They’re supposed to be a good first time dog because they don’t require much exercise. They are lap dogs. French bulldogs generally sleep 12-14 hours a day. They have short smooth coats that are easy to groom. Brush his or her fur on a week. They don’t shed much but twice a year they loose their undercoat. They aren’t a hypoallergenic dog breed. Like pugs, and every other short faced dog breed, they have a hard time breathing. They don’t do well in extreme temperatures. Wash your French bulldog if necessary. Ideally, once a month. They’re very playful dogs! Every dog in the USA can get heart worms. To prevent them give your dog a heart worm pill once a month. They have hip dysplasia. All short faced dogs have this problem, so.....be prepared! They can have their eyes pop out of their sockets. Frenchies also suffer from spinal disorders, eye diseases, heart diseases and joint diseases.
