Here’s the last part! Thank you for those who read the entire thing:)

I went to the hospital today, after school. I walked into the waiting room to see my mom crumpled on the floor in tears, and my dad trying to console her as best he could through his own sobs. Frightened, I asked the nearest nurse what happened. Pleasantly, she asked who I was and as soon as I told her the look on her face, for a split second, it just did a complete one 180. I will never forget that second. It was enough to chill the blood. She quickly regained her composure and said, “You just came out of emergency surgery. His condition is not good. The doctors say that even if his condition does not deteriorate further, he will never see or walk again. My condolences to your family,” and she walked away. Immediately I ran to his room and started sobbing on his bed. Lucas put his hand on my head and he said to me, “ It’s funny how life works out, isn’t it? For too long now, I’ve been “living my life to the fullest” so that I have no regrets. But doing that has caused the greatest regret I’ll probably ever have.” Then he turned his head in my direction and with a fierce sincerity I had never seen before. As his voice broke he said, “Evelyn, don’t you ever think that the fear of missing out is worse than regret, cause it’s not. Life is too valuable for you to waste it on being stupid.”

The night of his funeral, those words resonated through my mind, my heart, and my soul. Never will I forget them. Ever.
