Sami, I think you don’t need an exact label for your relationship. If you two talk and hang out together, I’m sure you’re friends. Maybe he just doesn’t say friends, bffs, etc to everyone he knows. You should ask him what he thinks! :)

He never confirmed that we were friends. Boys can do that sometimes around me while with girls the words bff and best friends and friends are frequent. It seen like we are. But is it really what he thinks?
