A lonely, frozen farm.
A warning that must be taken to heart.

1
Location: Unknown
At first, the desolate farm provided shelter. Although it was covered with cobwebs, partially caved in, freezing and completely abandoned, Kirsten made it her temporary home.
Then it became a prison.
Every hour, minute, second, of every day and every night, she would wonder if she should stay or go.
The threat to her family was not empty.
But neither was the threat to her friends.
Even when Kirsten's family seemed uncaring, she always loved them. But she knew her friends cared about her.
It was unceasing torment, for her to have an idea about what was happening next but knowing if she went something terrible would happen.
A bike whizzed by, and Kirsten peeked outside. A newspaper lay on the termite-infested porch. This part of town was unlike any other. She opened the door and grabbed it. She always flipped through, usually out of boredom more than anything but also with a tension inside that was equal parts anxiety and hope that Casey, Arwyn, Lavinia, Nadia... too many names...had made the news.
Today, she realized, they had.
They changed the plan. They told the police. Why didn't they tell her? They didn't know what happened to her, she remembered.
But a girl called Sahara had been kidnapped. That was new.
Conflict clouded her thoughts... now more than ever, her friends needed her. But her family needed her to stay. She paced through the farm, then coming to an old T.V. that she had never tried to work, searched for a remote control and found one not too far away.
She tried clicking on the power. Nothing.
Again.
Nothing.
Again.
Nothing.
Sweat started beading on her forehead, freezing almost as soon as it existed. She had to try. She pressed the power on the television itself and it glowed green.
