Way back in 1992, a tiny team and a friend who was a poor speller did the gaming world a huge favor and created what we now know and worship as Mortal Kombat. That's correct: the game, now a classic many times over, was created by only four people in less than a year (10 months, to be exact).
For perspective, there are probably more than four people working at your neighborhood Domino's Pizza at any given time. And to make a game of this complexity in 10 months? Absurd. And would you believe it took the team six of those months just to name their game? Yep. The winning bit of inspiration came when head creator Ed Boon spotted that a friend had misspelled "combat" on his drawing board.
Decades after its multi-system release, Mortal Kombat has become a gaming icon. Spanning 18 fighting games and three non-fighting ones, two successful movies, and a steady stream of universally beloved comic books, the original Mortal Kombat is one of gaming's most influential titles.
